Description

Dwarf miniature RPG, history in legends and literature.

A dwarf miniature is inspired by Swedish dvärg, Norwegian dverg, German Zwerg, English dwarf. In a word they are creatures from Norse and Germanic mythology. Later also present in German and Scandinavian folklore, and nowadays in literature, films and fantasy games. Basically modeled on creatures from Norse myths, dwarves were first introduced to fantasy literature by J.R.R. Tolkien. In short dwarfs are better at enduring hardship, hunger, and bodily wounds than any other creature with speech. Also they live long, much longer than humans, but they are not immortal. Concurrently dwarfs are short, stocky, offended by lush hair.

Dwarf in Tolkien Middle-earth.

To begin with in the mythology of Middle-earth, J.R.R.Tolkien first seven Dwarves were created by Aulë, one of the Valar. Therefore the Dwarfs were divided into seven tribes, each tribe descended from one of the Fathers of the Dwarf Tribe. In addition, there was also a tribe of dwarves-exiles, called by the elves the Dwarfs (sin. Noegyth Nibin).

Dwarf in Warhammer universe.

In the world of Warhammer, dwarves mainly inhabit mountain strongholds, some of which fell under the onslaught of Chaos, orcs, and skaven. Surely they are very tough warriors, always keeping their word, and honor is very important to them (as well as gold). In addition a separate community are the Chaos Dwarfs.

Dwarf in Arcanum.

In Arcanum, the dwarves are proficient in technology and are behind the invention of the steam engine and many other inventions, otherwise they are no different from Tolkien’s dwarves.

Dwarf in Dungeons & Dragons.

In the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons, the race scheme does not differ too much from the one presented in the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. In addition in Tolkien, apart from the visible differences between the sexes, there are sub-species of dwarves, i.e. Shield Dwarves, Gold Dwarves, Wood Dwarves, Arctic Dwarves, and Dugarar – Dark Dwarves.
