Ettercaps (known as ettercaps in 4th edition) are grotesque, bipedal aberrations that often collaborate with spiders. Moreover, they are low-intelligence creatures, yet extremely cruel and cunning in their hunting tactics. They specialize in setting traps to capture careless travelers.
Despite their barrel-shaped gait and hunched shoulders, ettercaps reach roughly human height. Furthermore, they have short, stick-like legs, long arms almost reaching their ankles, and distended abdomens. Each hand has four fingers ending in long, sharp claws.
Ettercap skin is thick and dark, covered with coarse black fur. They have elongated, horse-like heads with large, insectoid eyes that are usually red. Two long fangs protrude from either side of their mouths, lined with rows of sharp teeth.
The fangs secrete a potent toxin that can paralyze or even kill within hours. Consequently, this venom is highly valued on the black market. On their abdomens, ettercaps have silk glands that produce web-like threads. These threads are used to build webs, garrots, traps, and to bind victims.
Ettercaps do not communicate in the traditional sense. Instead, they use a combination of high-pitched squeals, screeches, and violent gestures to interact with one another.
