David L. Arneson (born October 1, 1947, in Minnesota, United States – died April 7, 2009) was an American game designer. In the early 1970s, he co-created the first edition of the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons with Gary Gygax. Although he was one of the most well-known RPG creators, he never sought fame. In the early days of role-playing game development, he was even referred to as the overlooked legend because of this.
