Dungeons & Dragons began as an extension of another game. In 1970, Gary Gygax and Don Lowry introduced a medieval miniatures wargame called Chainmail. Initially focused on traditional combat like hand-to-hand combat, cavalry charges, and jousting, Chainmail later incorporated a fantasy supplement. This supplement introduced new rules for monsters, magic, superheroes, mythical creatures, and more. Over time, these elements evolved into a comprehensive supplemental rulebook known as Dungeons & Dragons.
