Ernest Gary Gygax, the co-creator of Dungeons and Dragons, initially found his passion in tabletop war games before delving into D&D development. These strategy games, which meticulously simulate armed conflicts, were his primary hobby. He frequently spent weekends immersed in games that recreated historical battles. Gygax also ventured into designing war games, achieving moderate success with the medieval-themed Chainmail, published in 1971.
