Ernest Gary Gygax, co-creator of the game, gave it the name Dungeons & Dragons. Gygaxs 11 and 9-year-old children were among the first to playtest D&D, along with his friend and company co-founder, Don Kaye. After refining the game, Gygax needed to decide on a name. He explored various fantasy themes and, with the help of his four-year-old daughter, Cindy, he finally settled on Dungeons & Dragons.
